Newton Heritage Festivals
The Newton community is filled with diversity. People of all different races, heritages, cultures, and backgrounds come together to live in an accepting environment. In Newton there is a drive to learn about all types of cultures.
There are many heritage festivals sponsored by Newton Community Pride, throughout the summer to celebrate those different cultures. It is a great way to spend a Sunday evening with the family, enjoying various types of music. Each festival is located on Newton Center Green at 6:30pm. If you thought it couldn’t get any better, it’s completely free. But just be aware that if it is a rainy day, the event will be sadly cancelled.
Two successful festivals have already past, but it is not too late to join the celebration in the upcoming events. Earlier in July the New Black Eagle Jazz Band played some 1920’s and 30’s Jazz for us, from inspiring artists such as Armstrong. The American Chinese Art Society also put on a show full of traditional Chinese music and dance. If those seem fun, make sure you don’t miss the next ones coming soon.
Music for the Soul
On July 26 a band named The Reminisants will be with us to play music from the 1950’s up until the 90’s. That is such a wide range of music the whole family will be able to enjoy their night. If a 50 year span of music wasn’t enough, they play all different genres.
Los Sugar Kings will be playing music of Afro-Cuban roots, rock and reggae on August 2, so don’t forget to bring your dancing shoes. This night will be filled with Cuban, Salsa, and Rumba-Flamenca sound. You won’t leave without getting up for a dance.
