Helping Teens to live right!

The Mentor Connection in Newton, MA (www.ncscweb.org) makes a big impact on teens one by one. The program matches adult volunteers to teens that can benefit from a mentor relationship. The goal is to help youth identify and achieve their goals thought a meaningful relationship with a caring adult.

Volunteers can work with the teens one on one or in a group. One on one the partners would meet over a period of time on a regular basis to enjoy shared activities. Activities can include anything from playing ball, movies, or just enjoying an ice cream together. Group mentoring is a growing program where teens can sign up to participate in projects that are fun, informative, and healthy. Next month, The Mentor Connection will launch a pilot for a 2 month cooking group all about Italian cooking which, by the way, I will be teaching with my good friend Judy Moses. We are excited and have lots of ideas circulating about pasta, tomatoes, antipasto and more.

Volunteers are carefully screened and participate in a mentor training session. The class is lively and carefully structured to empowered the volunteers in developing excellent mentoring skills.

Research highlights the positive impact a mentoring relationship can have on today’s youth. If you are interested in volunteering, contact Deborah or Carrie at The Mentor Connection.
